History of the PEI 55+ Games Society

The Prince Edward Island 55+
Games Society was formed in 1997 through the
initiative of Ted Lawlor and Sharon(Knox)Renner.
The first games were held in Kensington in 1998.
We currently organize both Winter and Summer Games
which are held annually. Past host communities
have been: West Prince, Summerside, Borden,
Cavendish Resort Municipality, Cornwall,
Charlottetown, Stratford, and Montague.
Currently the Summer Games are held in the middle of
June while the Winter Games are held the first week
of March and rotate among Summerside, Cornwall,
Charlottetown, and Stratford.
Participants in the PEI Games may register for as
many events as the schedule permits. Events
frequently offered at the Winter Games are: Curling,
Hockey, Squash, Swimming, Badminton, Auction 45’s,
Crokinole, 5 Pin Bowling, X Country Skiing,
Cribbage, 8 Ball, Darts, Duplicate Bridge, Scrabble,
Skating(predicted), Walking(predicted),
Events frequently offered at the Summer Games are:
Golf, 5 Pin Bowling, Darts, Cribbage,
Cycling(predicted and time trial),
Walking(predicted), Auction 45’s, Road
Race(running), Horseshoes, Washer Toss, Crokinole,
Contract Bridge, Slo-Pitch Softball,
Nature Walk, Bocce, Car Rally.
The Games generally have entertainment, food, and
social events.
The PEI 55+ Games Society is governed by by a 10
member board which has representation from all
across PEI. The board meets 9-10 times a year.
